ICFC McCAULEY

Welcome to ICFC McCauley!

We provide spaces for upwards of 80 children ages 1 through 6. Our playroom names (picked by educators and families!) and environments reflect the cultural diversity of the centre. Each room incorporates loose parts and natural materials for enriching, age-appropriate play. Each child’s journey is documented in a portfolio that includes educator bios, artifacts such as drawings and photos, and “learning stories” that make the child’s learning visible for the child and parents alike.

OUR PLAYROOMS

EL NIDO

"The Nest" - Ages 1 to 2 years

This Spanish name was chosen for our youngest children to reflect the warm, nurturing environment in which they will begin their time with us.

In El Nido, children are provided opportunities for hands-on exploration, sensory play, and daily gross motor experiences.

SALAAM

"Peace / Welcome" - Ages 2 to 3 years

Salaam is a word used in Arabic, Tigrinya, and Amharic. This name honours the initiative and vision of ICFC’s founding members.

The Salaam playroom provides opportunities for creativity and exploration through open-ended play materials and loose parts. Our older toddlers’ growing independence is fostered by offering choices and age-appropriate opportunities for decision-making.

NATONAM

"One Who Seeks or Searches" - Ages 3 to 4 years

Our educators see children this age as explorers who continually make sense of the world around them through their play - we think this cree term describes them well.

The selection of open-ended, natural materials inspires curiosity and engagement. There are many opportunities for play, discovery, and learning in this environment.

KAPATIRAN

"Fraternity / Feeling of Community" - Ages 4 to 6 years

This tagalog word for the concept of brotherhood or sisterhood captures the essence of what we envision for our 4 to 6-year-old children.

Their playroom provides space to explore, investigate, and relax while taking responsibility and having input in decision-making and programming. We encourage children in Kapatiran to work and play independently and collaborate on projects.
